Hope you all enjoyed the win, and the sun, at the weekend. It was disappointing not to be a part of it but that’s the way it goes sometimes, but now the suspension is over and I can look forward to being on the field again this week.
It was a terrific win for the boys, the completion was high and the attack was fantastic. I’ve said in recent weeks that maybe we haven’t been at our best going forward, but against Dewsbury the team really made an impact and posted plenty of points. We managed to stop them from making metres, which was a big thing and a boost for our defence.
We’ve been drawn against Castleford in the quarter-finals which we’re looking forward to, like any cup game it’s not going to be easy but we’re determined to get to Wembley and I think we’ve got a good team to do that.
We have to put our focus back onto the league now, and we welcome Hull FC to the DW on Friday. They’ve had a good weekend in the cup, just as we did, and they’re playing some impressive rugby at the moment. Waney has got some difficult decisions to make, there’s a lot of bodies coming back into fitness and it gives a bit of competition to get on the team sheet.
Hull have some big players that we have to contend with, but being a home tie and our squad improving more and more each week, I’m sure it will be a good game.
There’s one name that I think everyone’s looking to seeing back this week, and that’s Sam Tomkins. He’ll probably tell you himself that it’s been a long wait. He’s one of those people that you hate to see injured because he’s just always moaning, he’s never happy until he’s on the field playing Rugby.
Sam has been back training with the boys for a little while now and he’s looking good. I played with him a few years ago in the England Squad but it will be good to pull on the Cherry and White shirts together.
See you Friday,
