Well, what a couple of weeks it’s been for us. We had the open training session the other week which was really good. It’s always nice to see people turn up to see us, even in the rubbish weather and it’s great to be able to have a chat to the fans and have some photos. Thanks to everyone who came down for that.
We were massively disappointed with the result against Brisbane, it wasn’t what we wanted at all. It’s probably fair to say that they outplayed us that night, and beat us in many areas of the pitch, which for us was a huge blow for us. We pride ourselves on our defensive game, and for them to put 40 points on us, we really felt like we’d let ourselves down. We had some harsh words after the World Club defeat, but we always try to build on the positives.
It was a quick turnaround then leading into the Salford game, with the game being on the Thursday. Salford had a short preparation period as well, so for both teams it was probably a very tough week. Again, it was one of those games where you just have to keep pushing for the full 80, luckily we did that and we got the win thanks to Dom Manfredi’s try near the end. I still think we aren’t at the level we would like to be though, our defence could be better and the attack hasn’t quite hit top form yet.
Looking ahead we’ve got a big one at Hull this week, before Leeds come to our place. The KC is never an easy place to go to and they’ve recruited well in the off-season, so that should be a really good game.
The week after we’re back at the DW for the game with Leeds which is being dubbed as “The Rematch” after the Grand Final, but for us it’s just about getting the job done and carrying on the winning ways. It’s been a long while since we lost at home in the league, and we hope to carry that on for as long as we can.
The first few weeks of the season are sometimes some of the toughest, but despite not being at our best yet, we’ve managed three from three. It’s taken some effort but now we should start to settle down and press on.
See you soon,
