It’s that time of year again, I hope you’re all looking forward to being back at the DW as much as I am!
We had quite a different pre-season to normal this time around, we didn’t go abroad, instead we stuck to the typical cold and rainy British weather. We’ve done a lot of work at the training ground but we also had a trip up to Wales. It wasn’t just any trip though, as I’m sure you’ve seen we were given campervans and all had to squash in together.
We literally spent every day together in the camper vans, it was a really cool trip though, we got to go surfing and do some other team activities. The key messages for pre-season was to get the best out of every session and work hard. Waney uses the word “reps”, everything we do is repetition but it helps us to better ourselves by learning from our mistakes or weaknesses.
The off-season has gone really quick this time, normally everyone can’t wait for pre-season to be over because of how tough it is, this time it feels like we can’t wait for it to be over so that we can get back on the field.
We have such a good squad this time around too, we lost a lot to injuries last year, but we’ve got the majority fit and ready for the new season. We have more depth to the squad which will help us out a lot, as well as some of the young kids that have come in, they’ve got on with it really well.
Luckily we don’t have to wait too long to get back out there now though, we’ve got Micky’s testimonial against Leigh this Sunday, as well as a friendly with Catalans next week.
The boys honestly can’t speak highly enough of Micky, they hold him in such high regard, so Sunday is such a huge occasion for him. A lot of people won’t believe it but he’s such a quiet lad, when he puts on that rugby shirt he’s a completely different person, he’s been a great servant to a great club for ten years now so he fully deserves such a big celebration of his career.
As for me, I’m now completely clear of the injury from last season. It’s been seven months and I just can’t wait to play now.
Hope to see you at Leigh,
