I just want to start by saying how gutted I am that my season has come to an end due to the injury I suffered earlier in the season. It’s really disappointing that it’s ended this way, but it was a decision which was out of my hands. The rehabilitation was going well but my neck hasn’t healed quite as well as we would have liked it to, and because of the nature of the injury, it was something that myself or the club didn’t want to risk.
I felt like I was playing some good rugby at the start of the season, and that I’d put some decent performances in. There were some things that I’d liked to have improved on and bettered as the season went on, but with the injury I’ve not been able to do that.
It’s the longest time I’ve ever been out in the 11 years that I’ve been playing, and it has been frustrating, it can be a very lonely place when you have an injury. It’s been really nice to see all the well wishes from the fans on social media though, it’s great that you take the time to do that, it’s really flattering and I can’t thank you all enough. My aim now is to look ahead to next season and do everything I can to come back and make a good impact on the field.
It’s been great to have been part of the team this year, both on the field and on the side-lines. Everyone sees Wigan as a team who are up there every year, and always in a position to be lifting some silverware.
It’s been a long old season for us, we’ve been up against it for long periods. We’ve already made one semi-final this year and the lads are determined to go one better and make the Grand Final now.
I think our team has shown great adversity to come through some difficult times this season though and still be in the position that we are. There have been a lot of players that have had to step up or adjust to different positions to cover our injuries along the way, but for me Sam Powell has impressed me the most this year. He’s a young lad who has really had to up his game, especially since losing Micky Mc early on, and he’s handled that pressure very well.
One thing you will be glad to hear from me, is that I won’t be sporting any blonde hair anytime soon. Sam and Lewis decided by choice that they wanted to try and find the Real Slim Shady, but unfortunately, I’m not him!
